SAMSUNG HD 55″ LED TV – Review
Last Christmas I decided to treat myself into buying a new TV as my previous one was an old flat screen Dell that I mainly used as a secondary monitor for my laptop rather than an actual TV. So with only limited amount of cash I literally walked into the first shop I came across which just happened to sell every TV imaginable.
Without taking too much consideration into resolution or sound quality, the only aspect I cared about was size. Now this Samsung 55″ J6201 Full HD LED TV just happened to be reduced to $449 being the cheapest 55″+ TV in the shop. Bargain!
With built in Freeview it’s always handy not having that annoying external box and another remote to change the channels. Comes with the regular Freeview channels and the options to pay for some channels like ESPN that unfortunately are not free.
At 55″ which may sound a bit strange as most normal TV’s are normally even numbers like 40″ or 42″ it’s a great size that doesn’t have to be any bigger unless your TV set just so happens to be sitting a mile away from your sofa.
It has 2 x 10W speakers with built in surround sound. Not massively loud but they work like a charm for a regular TV viewing experience.
In terms of ports at the back it has 2 x HDMI, 1 x Scart, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x Component & 1 x Composite. Originally I was surprised it only had one Scart and 1 HDMI but then realised that I don’t actually need more! In fact who uses Scart cables anymore?!
Another cool feature that I never knew about until a very long day of playing games was that it had an auto power off function. Not sure how long the TV was on for but it gave me a message saying the TV will be automatically switched off to save power. Maybe it was saying I should stop playing games of long periods of time!
Lastly the appearance of the TV can’t be faulted. It’s sleek and simple and how a TV should be. Although it could be thinner and lighter but who really cares too much about having the worlds thinnest TV. Them extra few inches are not going to make or break your decision.
I’ve had the TV for nearly a year now and I can say with my hand on my heart that it has never let me down. It’s everything I needed from a very decent price! I’ll have this TV for years to come until I give into the 3D crowd and buy one of them 3D TVs. But for now the only thing I’m thinking of changing is buying external speakers for an even more cinematic experience. I’d recommend buying this TV!
